Description of the Plant

A leafy rhizomatous herb; rhizome small. Leaves long petiolate, in tufts, the blade 15-30 cm long; lanceolate, acute. Flowers in radical, compact spike with long, pink coma bracts at the top; flowers yellow, longer than the bracts.

Actions and Uses

Rhizome is cooling, oleagenous, tonic and aphrodisiac; useful in biliousness, leprosy, burning sensation, dyspepsia, bronchitis, asthma, fever, thirst, jaundice, stones in the kidney and bladder.

Distribution

North Bengal, in fallow lands.
