Small annual fern, caudex short, creeping. Fronds 7.5-10 cm to a span and more long, ovate-acuminate or more or less deltoid, subtripinnate; pinnules elliptic, oblong or oblong-lanceolate, subpinnatifid or crenate; stipes and rachis purple-black; rachis winged.
Roots are preseribed for sickness attributed to witchcraft or the avil eye. Leaves are used as a poultice on swollen limbs.
Fern contains two ecdysone analogues, cheilanthone A and B, and charaterised as 7,8-dihydroecdysone and 25-deoxy-7,8-digydoecdysone respectively (Rastogi & Mehrotra, 1993).
